Brief History of NBRS Financial

Founded in 1873, and originally chartered as The Evans and Wood Bank, The National Bank of Rising Sun charter was applied for and obtained on June 8, 1880. The name remained the same until a state charter was applied for and approved in June 2002, when the institution became NBRS Financial.

Locally owned and managed since its inception NBRS Financial provides a broad range of services to its individual and business customers. Because of its local affiliations it is able to remain the same strong, reliable and safe bank as when it began. In fact, NBRS Financial is one of only two banks in the state of Maryland to stay open and solvent during the years of the Great Depression.

Over one hundred years after its original charter NBRS Financial opened it’s first branch in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Since 1999, NBRS Financial has successfully expanded to an institution with eight branches, including one in Pennsylvania.

NBRS Financial continues to be an independent Maryland-based community bank with a primary market area that includes Cecil and Harford Counties in Maryland, and Chester, Lancaster and York Counties in Pennsylvania.

NBRS Financial provides multiple services including NBRS Mortgage Co. to meet the mortgage needs of customers, Aventine Asset Management  for investment needs, and an affiliation with George Weiner Associates to help with insurance needs.
